Saudi Pro League: Origin, Spending Rules, Most Valued Transfers

Saudi Pro League which is fully known as The Saudi Professional League has its name as Roshn Saudi League is known to be the highest division of association football in Saudi Arabia.

According to the reports, the Saudi Pro League has been known to have been first operating as what was known as a  round-robin tournament in the 2007-08 season in particular.

The Saudi Pro League is known to be regularly ranked the highest coefficient in Asia because of its success and level of consistency in performance especially in the AFC Championship by its member clubs.

The Saudi Pro League’s first season was known to have commenced in the year 1976 with its first season starting in 1976-77. The most successful team in the league is Al Hilal which is known to hold several 18 titles to its credit. Al Hilal was recently crowned League champions in the 2021-22 season.

 

 

 

History has it that, the Saudi Pro League was initially and originally organized on a regional basis with the only major tournament in the 1950s being the King’s Cup.

Inclusively, the Central, Western, Eastern, and Northern regions consolidated the regional tournaments at the time, then the year 1976 saw the very first ever professional football league with several eight teams it increased to ten, and so on.

Currently, the format of the team consists of 18 clubs in all it usually has a course from August to May and their system of play has to do with what is known as a double-rounded system.

A system of promotion and relegation exists just like the top leagues in Europe, which is between the Saudi Professional League and Saudi First Division League. The ones who finish in the lowest 3 are relegated to the First Division while the latter in the First Division are promoted to the Saudi Pro League.
